When I moved to GA at the age of 12, I transitioned from an all white school in North Central, Florida, to an all Black school in a Black Suburb of GA. It was here I learned to play the sax, marched in the HBCU Battle of the Bands, and grounded my education in civil rights because in the 7th grade that I met my friend Marah. In 2023, after 30 years of friendship she asked me create a handmade book of their family ancestry with all of the genealogy that had been produced at the time as a gift for her grandmother's 90th birthday. It was an honor to create something so meaningful for her family.
I've created so many sentimental pieces of work, but crafting this for her family is by far one of my favorite projects ever, for one of my favorite humans to ever exist.
